The Treaty of Lunar Neutrality declared the sovereignty of The Lunatic Kingdom as a country and set formal claims to its territory and the territory of its colonies. This treaty also guaranteed that "no nation on Earth may threaten the safety or sovereignty of The Lunatic Kingdom." The vagueness of this guarantee was a point of contention for several nations, though none refused the agreement.

On September 10th, 2031, a drill core on [[Moonbase Alpha 8]] breached a subterranean cavern below the surface of the moon. Previously thought to be a helium reservoir, this cavern proved much larger than expected. When the drill reached the bottom of the cavern, it caused part of the cavern to collapse, causing intense moonquakes. These moonquakes caused structural damage to critical infrastructure in The Lunatic Kingdom, and as a response, LunaTech dispatched a private security force to shut down Alpha 8. LunaTech claims that it sent verbal warnings to the American operators ahead of the security force, though this claim is often disputed. The Lunarian security force entered Alpha 8 by force and held its staff hostage until the drill core could be safely deactivated. However, The United States declared this action as a hostile invasion, and declared war on The Lunatic Kingdom to drive Lunarian occupation out of all USAF-owned moonbases.

LunaTech security forces occupied Alpha 8 for 20 hours, demanding that all drilling operations at Alpha 8 cease and desist indefinitely. During these 20 hours, American staff were held hostage. When American forces arrived in Mare Nubium, they demanded that Lunarian security forces stand down. Upon non-compliance, American soldiers stormed Alpha 8. Due to yet unknown causes, within minutes of invasion, the entire facility had depressurized, leading to the deaths of all humans and lunar rabbits inside.

The Lunatic Kingdom (ルナティックキングダム, Runatikku Kingudamu) is a city owned by LunaTech on the Moon. It is home to a population of 2,576 Lunarians and more than 5,000,000 lunar rabbits. The Lunatic Kingdom also contains the Dragon Palace, which serves as the headquarters for LunaTech.

History

Approximately 300,000 BCE, early humans discovered primordial magic. This magic attuned them with young spirits and gods, who taught them the nature of realms and subspace. Humans used this magic to create a hidden realm on the moon and transport themselves to it. However, this tribe of humans only took their adults to the moon, leaving their children behind. The adults became Lunarians, a species of human purified from mortality. The remaining children grew to become modern humans. In 1969, humans traveled space and landed on the moon, causing a planetary emergency to be declared in The Lunatic Kingdom. To prevent the humans from defiling the purity of the realm, Tsukiyomi proposed a peace treaty with the United States of America. This treaty prevented humans from crossing the moon's horizon and thereby encroaching on The Lunatic Kingdom. This treaty was annulled in 2025 following the collapse of hidden realms, and the Treaty of Lunar Neutrality was enacted in its place.

The Alpha War

The Treaty of Lunar Neutrality declared the sovereignty of The Lunatic Kingdom as a country and set formal claims to its territory and the territory of its colonies. This treaty also guaranteed that "no nation on Earth may threaten the safety or sovereignty of The Lunatic Kingdom." The vagueness of this guarantee was a point of contention for several nations, though none refused the agreement. Some argue that this vagueness directly contributed to the Alpha War.
